Missouri mortgages for your first or next home

For a Missouri purchase, first-time status is one question among several. Compare the property, closing funds and relevant assistance resources before assuming that previous homeownership rules out every path.

Compare MHDC First Place and Next Step

Missouri Housing Development Commission describes First Place for qualifying first-time buyers and veterans. Next Step includes eligible first-time and repeat buyers and uses a different income framework.

These are separate agency resources, not automatic approvals. Ask a certified program lender which current requirements apply and compare the proposed financing with other conventional loan options.

Check the property before relying on USDA

If you are considering a USDA loan, have the address and applicable borrower requirements checked before relying on that choice. A rural appearance is not a substitute for a program eligibility review.

For any Missouri property, identify intended use and condition early. Ask what remains unresolved in the property review before treating a preliminary financing discussion as a final decision.

Plan your funds for closing

Separate your available funds from money you expect to receive from a sale or another source. Then identify the down payment, other closing expenses and reserve you want after moving.

Use the homebuyer checklist even if you have purchased before. A repeat buyer may still benefit from reviewing deadlines, required documents and the differences between the proposed loans.

Missouri mortgage questions

Does owning a home before exclude every MHDC program?

No. MHDC describes Next Step for eligible first-time and repeat buyers. First Place has its own framework and exceptions.

Does a rural-looking Missouri property qualify for USDA?

Not automatically. The address and borrower eligibility must be checked under the applicable USDA program.

What is useful for a Missouri planning conversation?

Start with location, intended use, timeline and your main financing question. Use the secure application if financial documentation is needed.
